The AdvancedMD 2025 Summer release centered on three themes: the Waystar clearinghouse, artificial intelligence, and the patient portal. It deployed on June 10, 17, and 26. Here is what shipped, by module.
Practice Management
- Waystar clearinghouse support: AdvancedMD became a multi-clearinghouse system, partnering with Waystar as a strategic alternative to Change Healthcare. Early adopter migrations reported positive outcomes. No action was required at release; more detail was promised in later updates.
- Patient merge: A tool to merge two patient records into one, combining appointments, transactions, and EHR chart data, to clean up duplicate entries.
- Multiple providers and services in a single purchase request: Provider-level services can now be added in one request when onboarding a new provider.
- Patient name ordering: The Patient Demographic Card now shows last name first, then first name.
- Taxonomy by carrier: Users can select a specific taxonomy by carrier, which helps identify the appropriate sub-specialty for accurate claim coding.
- Collections agency file update: Added responsible-party phone, preferred phone, and email fields for more patient contact methods.
- PM beta features: Single Sign-On, Enhanced Scheduler, AdvancedMD Pay refunds, Contact Card, and multiple copays per appointment type entered beta.
Electronic Health Records
- AI-generated SOAP and visit summary documents: AI can now summarize data captured in patient notes, pulling demographic and medical information from EHR note fields into a formatted SOAP note or visit summary.
- In-app editor for note narratives: A more integrated editor for managing patient note narrative templates.
- New medication request: The workflow for prescription requests from pharmacies was unified within the EHR prescribing process to reduce delays.
- Physician care notifications: Part of the messaging dashboard, surfacing prescribing trends, discontinued or recalled medications, and clinical studies.
- Discharge status on the EHR charge slip: A discharge status field was added under the Appointments tab and flows into outgoing clinical messaging.
- Updated outbound C-CDA: Part of a phased move to USCDIv3, the C-CDA was updated to support broader clinical data exchange, aligning with HTI-ASTP/ONC regulations.
- Scheduled eCQM reports: eCQM performance reports can now be scheduled weekly or monthly for the calendar year.
Patient Engagement
- Patient portal redesign (early access): A faster, more responsive portal with updated styles, simplified navigation, and improved search.
- Cancellation automation: A threshold can automatically create a charge and EHR note when patients cancel via the portal or reminders, and can prevent cancellation inside the threshold.
- Reputation management merge fields: New provider name and title fields for provider-specific feedback requests.
- Prefix and suffix enhancements: New merge fields for responsible-party and patient legal-name prefixes and suffixes across messaging templates.
- Request patient data restriction: Patients can request a data restriction via portal messaging, fulfilling an ASTP/ONC certification requirement.
Mobile
- Mobile dosage calculator: The browser EHR’s dosage calculator came to the iOS clinical app.
Turning a Release Into Results
A release note lists what changed. It doesn’t tell you which of these your practice will actually adopt, or how to build the workflow and reporting around them so they earn their keep. The Waystar move matters most if a clearinghouse outage ever caught you exposed, which is its own finding worth reading. And if the AI SOAP notes or cancellation automation map to something you have been trying to fix, the automation services page covers how these get built into a workflow that holds.
